Description
The 1939-1940 New York World's Fair sprawled over 1,200 acres in Flushing-Meadows-Corona Park, and was the second largest American World's Fair, exceeded only by the St. Louis Expo of 1904. The fair's theme was a futuristic one, focusing on "The Dawn of a New Day," and all of the technological advancements on the horizon. This original travel poster was commissioned by the Railroad Conference to attract visitors to the centerpiece of its exhibits (on seventeen acres) -- "Railroads on Parade," a spectacular live drama re-enacting the birth and growth of railroads. In addition to the show, there were important historical objects on display by the various railroads and manufacturing companies, such as the Tom Thumb engine.
