A Submarine Pirate (Triangle-Keystone, 1915). Originally a Three Sheet movie poster. An inventor and his accomplice plan to rob a ship carrying gold bullion by using a submarine. A waiter (Syd Chaplin) overhears their plans, buys himself an admiral's uniform, tricks his way into command of the sub and plots to take the ship himself. Interestingly, Chaplin worked as a steward on a ship while a teenager, financially supporting both his mother and half brother (Charlie Chaplin). In 1914, Syd followed Charlie to Hollywood and secured a contract with Mack Sennett. He acted for some time as Charlie's manager, but later struck out on his own and was given starring roles. His best film is regarded to be the silent version of Charley's Aunt (1925). Syd made his last films in Great Britain, but did not take to sound pictures and left the business in the early 1930s.
